Age Groups

The cutoff dates for playing in cricket teams is 31st August. In any particular season:

  • If a player is aged 9 or under on the 31st August, they are an U10 player
  • If a player is aged 10 or 11 on 31st August, they are an U12 player
  • If a player is aged 12 or 13 on 31st August, they are an U14 player
  • If a player is aged 14 or 15 on 31st August, they are an U16 player

Under 10s

An introduction to competitive cricket with modifications of rules to allow each player a fair go at batting and bowling. The focus is on the principles of F.A.S.T. Cricket:

  • Fun - everyone getting a bat and bowl and consistently being engaged in the matches;
  • Action - increased prospects of batting and scoring runs, being more efficient in bowling achievements, reduced size wickets and applied fielding restrictions;
  • Success - make more runs, effect better dismissals by having more balls in play; and
  • Time - capping balls faced and balls bowled

Under 12s competition

This is the first age group in which traditional junior competition rules are introduced. The children will feel like they are playing cricket just like the seniors and are introducted to more advanced skills as well as the game being scored. The match is played with some modifications to the rules, including the maximum number of balls per over, reducted boundaries, smaller ball and compulsory retirements. These games are played in a split innings format.

Under 14s & 16s competition

The under age competitions from Under 14s to Under 16s are similar in formats with full size cricket balls and traditional cricket rules being implemented with the exception of bowling and batting restrictions applying. These competitions see children start to develop their key skills with noticeable differences in batting techniques, bowling styles and their ability to catch and throw in the field as they progress through the age groups.
