Women's Program 2018/19 - Breaking New Ground
Date of Event : Wed Sep 26, 2018 2:55PM
Box Hill’s Women’s program has experienced unsurpassed success in recent times playing in 8 successive 1
XI grand finals & winning 4 premierships, including last season’s memorable final over victory, headlined by Hayleigh Brennan’s 6/24 Playerof the Match performance.
Women’s cricket continues to experience incredible growth from the international level where Box Hill’s own Meg Lanning continues to rewrite the records books as the national skipper, down to Women’s Premier Cricket & then there is the incredible explosion of growth we are seeing in junior female competitions.
This season will see Box Hill’s Women’s program field four senior teams for the first time – an amazing achievement when only 10 years ago we were struggling to field two senior teams.
The expansion of the Premier competition to include 2 new clubs this season is a great example of challenges we face to remain at the top of the tree & with this in mind our women’s program will be enhanced this season through the return of key coaching figures & the addition of several others.
Rick Cullinan returns as Head Coach for his second season after winning a 1
XI premiership in his first season. Rick is driving continuous improvement in our program & has led the growth of our emerging player ranks, enabling the addition of our new team.
Tim Reid returns in an Assistant Coaching role & will remain in charge of match day with the 2
XI. This will be Tim’s fifth season with the women’s program & the club is pleased to have him back with his knowledge of our Women’s program & Women’s Cricket more broadly.
Rebecca Brown, a former player & life member who played 181 games, including 137 1
XI games will be a very welcome addition in an Assistant Coaching role. Rebecca will be responsible for many of our younger, emerging players making the transition from our U14 ranks to senior cricket, including a match day role with our new XI who will play in the Women’s Community Cricket Shield grade. It is great to have Rebecca back actively involved in her club.
Adrian Jones joins our program as a Specialist Coach with a focus on bowling. Adrian’s credentials as a player & coach are top shelf – he is Cricket Australia Level 3 High Performance Accredited. Adrian played 226 Premier 1
XI games, taking 425wickets & played in 4 Premierships. He also coached St Kilda for 6 seasons, was Captain/Coach of Kingston Saints (VSDCA) for 4 seasons & coached Mordialloc (DDCA) for 2 years & 2 Premierships. We welcome Adrian to Box Hill.
Shane Gordon joins our program as a Specialist Coach with a focus on wicket keeping & fitness. Shane has been a personal trainer for 15 years. He played senior cricket with with Prahran, Fitzroy-Doncaster, Malvern and Bayswater. Shane has been a specialist wicket keeping coach for 10 years & we welcome him to Box Hill.
Box Hill has been at the forefront of the growth in women’s cricket for 10 years now & with the incredible achievements of our U14 girls going through undefeated to win a premiership, alongside last season’s senior success we are committed as a club to remaining the pre-eminent club in women’s cricket.
