This week we have a contrast of 2 record setting bowling displays – a senior debut by a 13 year old and a then record bowling performance by the living legend himself, John Hogg. On this weekend in season 2013/14 having just turned 13 years of age Bella Geitzman announced herself as a star on the rise claiming the amazing figures of 6/8 off 7.3 overs in the women's 3rd XI crushing victory over Mt Martha. It was Bella’s debut senior game for the club as she joined to play U/14s that season – the figures stand as a 3rd XI record. Bella destroyed Mt Martha to dismiss them for 95 defending a total of 205. Captain Pennie Harrison having set up the win with 108 at the top of the order. Bella went on to establish herself in the firsts the following year and is now a 3-time premiership star.On this weekend in 1984/85 the "living legend" John Hogg took the figures of 8/8 from 9.4 overs (6 maidens) for the 4th XI against Glen Iris. Amazingly this also included a double hat-trick. Hoggy’s record stood for 13 years – not wanting to ruin the surprise but yes David Carter your performance will feature next week. Glen Iris were bundled out for 19 from just 19.4 overs. In reply Box Hill were bowled out for 64 in 32.5 overs suggesting that conditions may have been bowler friendly or the players had a wedding to get to. Captain Daryl Thiele top scored with 16 – most balls popped over his head making it easier for him to survive on a "wetty". The side also included recognisable names from the Honour Boards - Bruce Utting, Paul Tierney and the great Donnie Gee. Looking forward to Hoggy talking us through all 8 wickets (and send offs) at the next past players day.
