From the Vault - Round #5
Date of Event : Fri Nov 2, 2018 6:50PM

On this weekend in 2012 Margaret “Minnie” Pretty made her maiden century for Box Hill in the 2nd XI versus Brunswick Park making 101 not out with Box Hill reaching 6/178 from their 45 overs. The innings is even more impressive when you consider that Extras was the next best contributor with 35 with Minnie making 70% of the runs scored off the bat.

On this weekend in 2001 Steven Rowell made a then club record 3rd XI score of 222 against Brighton at Springfield Park. Rowelly knocked up his score in 197 balls with 18 fours and 10 sixes – plenty of shouts of “great contact” coming from teammates watching from the sidelines. The innings was declared at 6/366 after 71 overs. The team also included young guns who would go onto to play Premier Cricket in Eric Ghasperidis (Fitzroy Doncaster and Northcote) and James Stevenson (Hawthorn). Box Hill then went on to bowl Brighton out for 70 in 45 overs with skipper Ken Trollope taking 4/9 from 13 overs. I am going to go out on a limb and say that Rowelly holds the club record for promotion between the grades going from 4ths to 3rds to 2nds and then 1sts in consecutive rounds during that season.

Good luck to all teams this weekend.
