FROM THE VAULT - ON THIS WEEKEND

On this weekend in season 2018/19 the Women's 2nd XI scored a comprehensive win in its 1-day clash with Plenty Valley. Having won the toss and batted Plenty Valley were bundled out for just 53 in 19.4 overs. Wickets were shared between the bowlers led by Emily Roberts (2/14), Kristy Arulrajah (2/5) and Ashling O'Farrell (3/17). Box Hill wasted no time in passing the low total in just 8.3 overs with skipper Pennie Harrison leading the way with 26 not out from just 20 balls. A very early finish with just 28 overs bowled for the game!!

On this weekend in season 1994/95 Glenn ("Tommy") Turner showed his class in difficult conditions out at Melton to score his maiden 1st XI century. Melton won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch that resembled the Western Highway posting an imposing total of 332 from its 80 overs. The following week Box Hill were not so fortunate having to chase down the total on a sticky wicket. Batting at number 3 Tommy amassed an even hundred from 176 balls with 8 boundaries and 2 sixes in what witnesses say was one of the most complete innings seen under very challenging conditions. Some support was provided by John Maartensz, Scott Jackson and Chris Parsons. Box Hill was eventually dismissed for 233 falling well short with the players having to console themselves on the long drive home. Tommy arrived at Box Hill from the local BHRDCA competition in Season 1991/92 and became a key part of the 1st XI Premiership in his first season at the club. Tommy played for the Club over 7 seasons being the Men's Club Champion in 2 seasons with a 1st XI batting average just over 25 which puts him in very good company amongst batsmen in the era of uncovered wickets and very long grass at City Oval!!

Good luck to all teams this weekend.
